Help with my lemon tree!

I just bought a home that has a pretty large lemon tree. The problem is all my lemons feel soft and hollow...or spongy. I have tons of lemons on there and even alot of new little (green) lemons. Why are they soft and what can I do to have firm lemons so I can eat them? Thanks for your help!!
